International roaming charge was eliminated for trips to Andean Community countries

As of Saturday, January 1, 2022, Bolivians, Colombians, Ecuadorians and Peruvians will not have to pay any additional surcharge for the service of international roaming postpaid in the countries of the Andean Community (CAN).

Thanks to Decision 854, a supranational and mandatory regulation, the same conditions or rate plans will be applied as the country of origin for voice, SMS and data services, CAN said in a statement.

This benefit for the pocket of the more than 111 million inhabitants of the region is part of a regulation that was approved by the member countries on February 19, 2020, thereby strengthening the Andean Digital Agenda.

“This historic Decision contributes to the efforts of the CAN countries to efficiently and effectively close the digital divide and comply with the founding principle of our body, which is to improve the quality of life of Andean citizens,” he said. the Secretary General of the CAN, Jorge Hernando Pedraza.

The head of the agency highlighted that the elimination of international roaming charges is in addition to the milestones recently reached by the CAN, such as the Andean Migration Statute, the Andean Environmental Charter, the norm that facilitates the circulation of vehicles for private use by tourists. , the next implementation of the project that facilitates and digitizes INTERCOM commerce, among others.
