Time change in 2022. Poles will juggle watches again. But maybe the last time

In Poland, as in almost all of Europe, clocks have to be changed twice a year. In 2022, it will be no different, because clear rules have been in force here for more or less one hundred years. The last time they were “updated” was about 20 years ago.

Therefore, the daylight saving time transition will take place on March 27, 2022. We will switch to winter time on October 30, 2022.

Poles dance with clocks, and EU officials cannot come to an agreement

There is a shadow of a chance that changing the hours on the clocks will go down in history. The European Union has an idea to move away from the troublesome habit. The research commissioned in 2018 by the European Commission shows that as much as 84 percent. he doesn’t want to change clocks anymore. 4.6 million people took part in public consultations.

EU procedures to change the will of the respondents to the law were launched and took the form of a draft directive. Ultimately, however, it was not possible to reach an agreement on the matter. First, the ranks were thwarted by a pandemic. “In the current pandemic situation, where the amount of additional stressors is already significantly above average, there will be another one – the change of time. What we know today is that the reduced amount of sleep translates into work efficiency, e.g. for drivers, costly downtime or forced delays where we deal with shift work, especially in transport and logistics. Significant costs also arise where electronic systems conduct financial transactions on a global scale. There were also situations where we had problems using cash from an ATM, as these failed “- argued in March Dr. Bartłomiej J. Gabryś from the Department of Entrepreneurship at the University of Economics in Katowice.

Later it turned out that individual EU countries want to divide the continent differently in terms of the time zones in force. Some countries – including Poland – declared switching to summer time, others – eg Denmark – to winter time.

The Union may end up with a change of time. Much depends on the pandemic

There is no final decision on resetting the clocks, but there is still a chance that after the epidemic has passed, EU countries will come back to the matter. In 2022, we will certainly have to adjust the clocks. And that’s twice.

The first time change took place in 1916 and it was decided by the Germans. It was first introduced in Poland in 1919. Currently, however, we have been presenting watches continuously since 1983. Until 1995, we switched to winter time on the last Sunday in September (currently we do it on the last Sunday in October).
