The country reached a new daily record of 14 degrees, explained the head of the scientific forecasting service at the Royal Belgian Meteorological Institute.
Belgium registered this Friday a temperature of 14 degrees Celsius in a weather station south of its capital, which surpasses the previous record of 13.8 degrees the mercury reached on New Years Eve of 2017 and makes 2021 the warmest end of the year in the history of the country.
“14 degrees is the new daily record at Uccle today,” David Dehenauw, head of the scientific forecasting service of the Royal Belgian Meteorological Institute, said on his Twitter.
This is the second consecutive day in which a temperature record is broken for this time of year after this Thursday was the warmest December 30 on record: the thermometer reached 14.2 degrees to exceed the previous peak, of 13.8 degrees, which dated from 1925.
Belgium will not, however, exceed the highest temperature ever recorded in a month of December, which at least until the end of 2022 will continue to correspond to the December 16, 1989, when it reached 16.7 degrees.
The country will enter 2022 with rains and a general drop in temperatures after a relatively mild end of the year thanks to a mass of warm air from southwestern Europe. (I)
