Mexico extradite to the US about thirty detainees linked to drug trafficking

This last Thursday, February 27, The Government of Mexico has extradited to the USA near one thirty detainees linked to drug traffickingincluding the confunder of the Guadalajara poster Rafael Caro Quintero. A fact that takes place a few days before Donald Trump applies tariffs to Mexican products.

“This morning they were transferred to the US, 29 people who were deprived of their liberty in different prison centers in the countrywhich were required for their links with criminal organizations for drug trafficking, among other crimes, “says a brief joint statement from the Prosecutor’s Office of Mexico and the Ministry of Safety and Citizen Protection and of which Europa Press reports.

The Mexican authorities have stressed that “custody, transfer and formal delivery of these people are carried out following the institutional protocols, with full respect for their fundamental rights and in attachment to the Constitution and the National Security Law, in response to the request of the US Department of Justice.”

In addition, they added that “This action is part of the coordination, cooperation and bilateral reciprocity effortsalways within the framework of respect for the sovereignty of both nations. “However, Mexican agencies have not provided the identities of extradited citizens.

Washington wants to destroy the posters

On the other hand, according to Europa Press, Washington has released the list of extradited peoplewho face charges related to organized crime, drug trafficking, homicide, illegal possession of firearms, money laundering and other crimes. According to US authorities, extradited “have played a key role in the importation of huge amounts of drugs to the United States, including cocaine, methamphetamines, fentanyl and heroin, in addition to being linked to acts of violence associated with these illegal activities.”

Among the extradited ones, as this communication agency adds, is Caro Quintero, indicated as responsible for the murder of a DEA agent in 1985. They have also been delivered to the USA Martín Sotelo, accused of murdering in 2022 a Sheriff’s assistant; Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, brother of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation cartel; and the leaders of ‘Los Zetas’, Ramiro Pérez Moreno and Lucio Hernández Lechuga.

The US attorney general, PAM Bondi, recalled that during Donald Trump’s mandate the cartels were designated as terrorist groups, and has assured that his office “is committed to the eradication of cartels and transnational criminal gangs.” In this sense, he has emphasized: “We will take these criminals before justice with all the weight of the law, in honor of the agents who have dedicated their career – and even their life – to protect innocent people from the violence of these groups.”

From Bondi’s office they have indicated that many of these extraditions were requested years ago without obtaining a response during the previous administration. However, they have stressed that the Mexican government “has finally decided to transfer these individuals in response to the efforts of the Department of Justice to completely dismantle these criminal organizations.”
