USA says that Europe will participate in peace negotiations on Ukraine but asks the parties “to make concessions”

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said Tuesday from Saudi Arabia that the European Union (EU) must participate “at some point” in the negotiations on Ukraine for having imposed sanctions on Russia during the course of the war. “Sanctions are all the result of this conflict. There are sanctions that were imposed as a result of this conflict. Therefore, I would tell them that to put an end to any conflict, all parties must make concessions, “said the head of the United States diplomacy at a press conference from Riyadh after meeting with a Russian delegation.

In this regard, he recalled that in addition to the United States “there are other parts that have sanctions” against Russia, as is the case of the EU. “The European Union will have to be on the table at some pointbecause they also have sanctions that have been imposed, but I suppose that the objective here is, and we agree what is the goal, put an end to this conflict in a way that is fair, lasting, sustainable and acceptable to all the parties involved, “he said Blond.

The American said that Washington will designate a “high -level team” to negotiate the end of the war and agreed with Russia “start working at a high level to start discussingthink and examine geopolitical and economic cooperation that could result from an end of the conflict in Ukraine. ”

The negotiations in Riad extended for about four and a half hours and were integrated, by the Russian part, by Yuri Ushakov, Kremlin advisor; Russian Foreign Minister Serguéi Lavrov, and the Director of the Direct Investment Fund, Kiril Dmítriev. Meanwhile, the US delegation was represented by Rubio, Waltz, and the special American envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.

This is the first meeting between a Russian Foreign Minister and a US Secretary of State since the one held in January 2022, one month before the start of the war, between Lavrov and his counterpart Antony Blinken. The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, said he will not accept any agreement on his country regardless of kyiv and backs of his European allies.
