The president of the United States, Donald Trumpwill sign an executive order on Thursday to sanction the International Criminal Court (ICC) for its actions against the United States and its allies, such as Israel.
According to the official agenda of the Republican President, Trump plans to sign several executive orders, including the one involving sanctions to the CPI.
Specifically, The order seeks to impose financial restrictions and restrict the obtaining of visas to travel to the United States to individuals from the ICC that collaborate in court investigations against US citizens or allies of Washington.
The signature of this executive order will arrive after Trump’s meeting on Tuesday with Israeli Prime .
Netanyahu is visiting Washington until Saturday and has held meetings with important figures from Congress and the Government, including Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth. In 2020, During his first term, Trump already imposed sanctions against the then prosecutor of the ICCFatou Bensouda, and one of his main advisors due to an investigation by the court on alleged war crimes committed by US troops in Afghanistan.
Trump’s measure arrives after last week the Senate Democrats, in a minority in that camera, blocked an attempt led by Republicans to sanction the ICC in response to their arrest orders against Netanyahu and its former Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, for the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
The CPI, created through the Rome Statute, is an international court with the mission of judging people accused of war crimes, humanity and genocide. The United States, China, Russia and Israel are not members of the Court and, therefore, do not recognize their jurisdiction.
