Trump says he urged Netanyahu to stop the war in Gaza: ‘The killing has to stop’

The former president and Republican candidate for White House, Donald Trump (2017-2021), said on Thursday that he spoke with the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahufor the last time in July and urged him to end the war in gaza telling him: “The killing has to stop”.

After a press conference at his Bedminster golf club focused on his rivalry with Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, Trump was asked about Netanyahu and replied that he last saw him at his Florida mansion, where they had a meeting of “about two and a half hours.”

“I was hoping to talk to him, but I haven’t since,” Trump said, appearing to confirm Netanyahu’s denial of press reports that the two spoke on the phone yesterday, supposedly about negotiations for a truce in the Gaza conflict.

“No, he knows what he’s doing. I did encourage him to end this. Do you want to end this? It has to end quickly. Get your victory and end it. The killing has to stop,” He explained about the meeting they had on July 26 at his Mar-a-Lago mansion.

Trump highlighted the “very good relationship” with Netanyahu and Israel, he regretted that “October 7 was never supposed to happen” and assured that it was the prime minister who requested the meeting.

Netanyahu went to Trump’s estate for his first meeting since the Republican left office in 2021, after meeting with US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House the day before.

The leader of the Hebrew state traveled to Washington to address Congress and urge elected officials to continue US support for Israel in its war against Hamas in Gaza, which has already left more than 40,000 Palestinians dead, according to the Ministry of Health of the enclave.
