The campaign of the former president of USA and Republican candidate, Donald Trumpruled out negotiating the holding of an electoral debate with Vice President Kamala Harris until she is officially nominated as the Democratic Party candidate.
“Given the continued political chaos surrounding the corrupt Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, the details of the general election debate cannot be fine-tuned until the Democrats formally choose their candidate,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.
According to Cheung, it would be “inappropriate to schedule anything with Harris because Democrats could very well change their minds” about her candidacy.
The vice president on Thursday challenged the Republican to debate on September 10, the date on which the second face-to-face between Trump and President Biden was scheduled, before the latter gave up running for re-election.
Harris is the only candidate who has filed to succeed Biden as the Democratic nominee and has already secured the support of enough party delegates to be nominated at the Democratic National Convention in August.
Biden threw in the towel last Sunday after weeks of internal criticism in his own party for his disastrous role in the debate with Trump of last June 27th.
On that occasion, both Biden and Trump agreed to debate despite the fact that neither of them had been officially announced as candidates of their respective parties.
