The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) – the main opposition alliance of Venezuela– assured this Thursday that, if his presidential candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, wins the elections on Sunday, he will work on creating confidence so that there is in the country “monumental investments“in several sectors, including energy.
At a press conference, opposition leader María Corina Machado, who supports González Urrutia’s candidacy, said that Venezuela needs “giant investments” so that “can take advantage of the potential of becoming the ‘hub“(energy) center of the Americas.”
“We are going to create confidence in Venezuela so that the monumental investments that we need in the energy sector, in the mining sector, in the infrastructure sector, in the telecommunications sector come,” said the former deputy, who participated in the event with the candidate.
In his opinion, “There is no other country in the hemisphere that has the potential to become the energy hub of the Americas like Venezuela”which -he assured- “it has not been done” because, in the Caribbean nation, “there is no rule of law.”
Instead, he added, “none of the party members” which groups the PUD “sand refuses to open up and allow private investment“, with “Rule of law, respect for property and contracts.”
The candidate for re-election, President Nicolás Maduro, also claims to be “ready and willing to negotiate with anyone who needs to be negotiated with” and reach agreements for the “development of oil and gas resources”he said on Wednesday, after Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago signed a set of agreements for the development of a gas project in a shared offshore field.
He described himself as “the only one that guarantees legal security, stability, and tranquility in this country for all projects Petroleum and of gas”, which is why – he said – a “rain of investments” is falling on the country.
A dozen candidates are competing in the presidential elections, including Maduro and González Urrutia, who will close their campaigns on Thursday – as established by the National Electoral Council (CNE) – with separate events in Caracas, where they hope to gather thousands of supporters.
