60% of Hispanic voters believe Biden should be replaced as candidate

Six out of ten Hispanics Those surveyed about the presidential elections next November believe that the president of USA, Joe Bidenshould be replaced as a candidate, according to a survey by the International University of Florida (FIU, in English) revealed this Thursday.

The poll ‘Hispanic Voices: Annual Survey of Hispanics in the United States, July 2024’ conducted after the first presidential debate, in which the current president had a weak showing, found that more than half (60%) believes Biden should be replaced as a candidate.

Vice President Kamala Harris is seen as the best replacement for Biden, with a higher favorability rating (52.5%) compared to the US president, who barely reached 49%.

The results come just as Biden faces growing pressure to re-evaluate his candidacy ahead of the election, and on Thursday, former President Barack Obama (2009-2017) and other top Democratic Party leaders increased the pressure for him to drop out of the race.

The survey, sponsored by Adsmovil and the Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom at FIU, asked Latinos in the ten states with the largest voting populations of this community about their perception of the November elections.

The poll also found that Hispanics remain predominantly Democrats: 47% of those surveyed identified with this party and the 54% He pointed to the Democratic Party as the one that best represents his values.

More from 42% of those surveyed have a more negative view of President Biden than when he took office four years ago, although the 41% indicated that he would still vote for him in November.

But a greater number, 43% of those surveyed have an unfavorable opinion of former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump.

The survey results were presented at the seminar ‘The Hispanic Voter 2024: The Scoop’.

“I found it remarkable that although the Hispanic electorate remains predominantly Democratic with almost a 47%“Party loyalty is declining,” said Eduardo Gamarra, founding director of the Latino Public Opinion Forum and senior researcher at FIU, when presenting the results.

He warned that it is quite clear that the Hispanic electorateor “will focus on the main items on the ballot in November and other issues, although important, will be secondary.”

Latino votes helped Biden win key state elections in 2020, such as Arizona, where he only beat Trump by 11,000 votes.

For his part, Alberto Pardo, founder of Adsmovil, highlighted the importance of the Hispanic electorate in the upcoming elections. Projections indicate that at least 17.5 million Latinos, who make up 14.7% of eligible voters, will participate in the November elections, which could influence the outcome.
