In Los Angeles, Two twins of just 3 years oldJosiah and Jestice, have died from consuming fentanyl, a lethal drug that is causing havoc in the United States. The children’s mother has been arrested and could face life in prison for exposing her children to the dangerous substance.
Hugging each other, trying to comfort each other after the terrible family tragedy, the children’s grandmother expressed her pain: “I’m empty inside. Empty in my heart.”
The tragedy occurred in an apartment building where the children lived. The neighbours remember the horror of that day.
“I heard the screams they made, but I never imagined what could happen,” said one neighbour, while another neighbour described the chaotic scene: “There were 10 police cars. They were here all day.” This same neighbour tried to revive the twins: “They were on the ground, lifeless. Her lips were blue“.
The children had just turned 3 years old. Josiah died instantly, while his sister Jestice died two days later in the hospital. The mother has been charged with crimes of murder and child abuseand could face life in prison.
The twins’ grandmother issued a warning: “Anyone who has a family member, friend, acquaintance who is using this drug, know that it is fatal.” Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid, 50 times more powerful than heroinresponsible for the overdose deaths of 100,000 Americans in 2020. “In Los Angeles, we have a huge problem with fentanyl, which impacts the lives of innocent children,” said the prosecutor in the case.
The family has asked for financial help to cover the twins’ funeral expenses, a further tragic consequence of the fentanyl crisis sweeping the nation.
