The French city of Nice suffered one of the most brutal jihadist attacks in history on July 14, 2016, with 86 dead and 400 injured. He Promenade des Anglais from Nice, one of the most touristic cities from the French Riviera, was located packed with people watching the fireworks which were putting the finishing touch to the celebrations of the French National Day, when shortly after 11 pm, a Jihadist terrorist broke into the city with a truck at high speed through the gathered crowd, knocking down hundreds of people and leaving a total of 86 dead and more than 400 injured.

The perpetrator of the attack, the Tunisian with French nationality Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, 31 years old, was shot dead by French police at the scene of the incident. The jihadist terrorist group Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack in a message broadcast by the Amaq news agency, which is affiliated with the terrorist organisation. The attack in Nice was one of three major attacks suffered by France in just a year and a half, following the assault on the magazine Charlie Hebdo in January 2015 and the multiple attacks in the Bataclan hall and other places in Paris in November 2015.
