Biden calls on supporters to remain united amid calls for him to drop out of race

President Joe Biden Biden urged supporters to rally around him during an emotional church service on Sunday, where the pastor cited biblical teachings, saying “Joseph should never be written off.” Biden also blamed jealousy for intensifying pressure from some Democrats to drop his re-election bid.

Speaking from a stage illuminated by sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows of the Church of God in Christ of Mount Airyin Northwest Philadelphia, Biden, 81, laughed off concerns about his age and joked: “You know, I look like I’m 40, right? But I’ve been doing this for a long time.”

He said sincerely: “I have never been more optimistic about America’s future if we remain united. He did not use a teleprompter, an electronic device to read a prepared text, something that has become more common since his disastrous performance in last month’s debate; instead, he spoke from a prepared speech.”

The president made these statements after the pastor Louis Felton I would compare him to Joseph and the biblical story of his “multicolored cape”. Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt by his jealous brothers, but eventually rose to a high position in Pharaoh’s kingdom, where his brothers came to him for help without initially recognizing him.

Never count Jose out, Felton pleaded. Then, referring to Democrats who have called on Biden to step aside, he said: “That’s what’s happening, Mr. President. People are envious of you. Envious of your firmness, envious of your favor. Envious of the hand of God on your life.”

Biden was scheduled to meet later with union members and local Democrats in Harrisburg, capital of the disputed state of Pennsylvania, before returning to Washington, where leaders of the countries in the NATO will meet for a three-day summit starting Tuesday to mark the 75th anniversary of the military alliance.
