US President Joe Biden said on Monday that the Supreme Court’s ruling on former President Donald Trump is “aa dangerous precedent” and “undermines the rule of law” determining that any President “can feel free to ignore the law” without facing consequences.

“Now, the American people have to do what the Supreme Court I should have done“The American people must make a judgment about Donald Trump’s behavior,” Biden said in remarks from the White House in an attempt to mobilize voters for the November elections.

The Supreme Court on Monday granted Trump partial immunity for his efforts as president to overturn the 2020 election result that led to the storming of the Capitol, and sent the case back to lower courts, effectively reducing the former president’s chances of being tried before the election.

“Today’s decision has continued the Court’s attack in recent years on a wide range of long-established legal principles “in our nation, from taking away a woman’s right to choose (in reference to abortion), to today’s decision that undermines the rule of law in this nation,” Biden said during a brief speech to the media without questions from journalists.

In this regard, he stressed that the United States was founded on the principle that “All are equal before the law”, including the president himself, and that the Supreme Court’s decision has “completely changed” him.

“For practical purposes, today’s decision means that there are virtually no limits on what a president can do. This is a fundamentally new principle, and it is a dangerous precedent, because the power of the office will no longer be limited by law, not even by the US Supreme Court. The only limits will be self-imposed by the president.you,” he added.
