Bolivia summons Argentine ambassador over Milei’s statements about “self-coup”

He Government of Bolivia summoned this Monday the Argentine ambassador in La Paz, Marcelo Massoni, to express a “strong rejection” to the statements made by the Office of the President of the Republic of Argentina, Javier Milei, who repudiated “the false accusation of a coup d’état made” by the Administration of Luis Arce.

Bolivian Minister of the Presidency, Maria Nela Prada, who is also serving as interim foreign minister, reported at a press conference that she also called for “in consultation” to the Bolivian ambassador to Argentina, Ramiro Tapia, “to be present at the Government headquarters” Bolivian.

The Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Argentina published a statement on Sunday night in which it repudiated “the false complaint of coup carried out by the Government” from Bolivia.

In the note he also accused the Government of President Luis Arce of controlling the three powers of the State and having more than “200 political prisoners”, including former interim president Jeanine Áñez and opposition governor Luis Fernando Camacho, both prosecuted for the political and social crisis of 2019.

Likewise, according to the Milei Government, Bolivian democracy “Is in danger” but not for the “attempted military coup“, but because ““Socialist governments lead to dictatorships” and compared the Andean country with “Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, North Korea”.

Earlier, the Arce Government rejected “strongly condemns the unfriendly and reckless statements made by the Office of the President of the Argentine Republic“on the military insurrection last Wednesday that the Bolivian president described as a “Coup attempt”.

Last Wednesday, a group of heavily armed soldiers with tanks led by the dismissed military chief Juan José Zuñiga carried out an armed uprising against the headquarters of Luis Arce’s government. Hours later, the then commander retreated and was imprisoned.

Among those who have questioned the veracity of Arce’s statements about a “Coup attempt”, are the former president and leader of the ruling Movement to Socialism (MAS), Evo Morales (2006-2019), who pointed out that the Government pretended a “self-coup” and called “liar” to Luis Arce.
