Former Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, political rival of the president-elect Claudia Sheinbaumwill be the Secretary of Economy of the next Government, which will be in charge of leading the renegotiation of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC).
“Our objective is not only economic growth, but also development with justice and well-being and also respecting the environment. We are clear that we have a mandate from the people of Mexico”he declared Sheinbaum when announcing the position at an event in Mexico City.
Ebrard was Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico under the current presidency of Andrés Manuel López Obrador from December 1, 2018 until his resignation on June 12, 2023, when he competed against Sheinbaum in the internal race of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena).
