The next president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumassured this Thursday that “there is no risk” for US investments in the Latin American country, given the controversial reform of the Judiciary promoted by the President’s Government Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
After the United States Department of State urged Sheinbaum on Wednesday that the judicial reform that Congress will debate respects the foreign investments provided for in the North American free trade agreement (T-MEC), Sheinbaum He insisted that ““None of the investments are at risk.”
“The treaty (T-MEC) is a trade treaty that we have signed with the United States, and there will be its controversies within the treaty and also its forms of resolution.“said the Mexican official.
Regarding the statement of the person in charge of the State Department for Latin America, Brian Nichols, Sheinbaum highlighted that “the first thing he says“is that Mexico is”a sovereign and independent country” and “You have the right to make all the legal reforms you want to make”.

On the other hand, Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of addressing insecurity and violence in the country “with a judicial power that is not giving protection to criminals from corruption processes.”
Likewise, the official reported that this weekend her party will begin surveys to find out the opinion of citizens about the Judiciary, the results of which would be announced next Monday.
The controversial judicial reform proposed by outgoing President López Obrador, with the support of Sheinbaum, includes, among other issues, the popular election of judges, ministers and magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).
