The Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim It has a 3.16% stake in BT, the British communications company reported this Wednesday.
The former state company notified the London Stock Exchange of this position of Business Control of Capitales SA de CV and other firms owned by the magnate and his family, in compliance with current regulations.
The ‘Financial Times’ newspaper points out that the expansion of the stake comes after the new CEO of the British giant, Allison Kirkby, announced last month plans to transform the telecommunications group.
The position taken by Business Control; Dominum Direction y Gestiones SA and Operadora Inbursa SA as INBUINTER’s manager is valued at around 400 million pounds (473 million euros, US$513 million), according to the newspaper.
BT told the newspaper that “Any investor who recognizes the long-term value of the business is welcome” and noted that he will collaborate with Inbursa as he does “with all investors”.
Slim, one of the wealthiest businessmen in the world and considered the richest in Latin America, built his fortune in the telecommunications sector and his company América Móvil is present in European groups such as KPN and Telekom Austria.
