Colombia, Honduras and Peru are among the countries with the most nationals who have regularized their situation in Spain through what is known as roots for job training, according to a report made public this Monday.
This study by the Aspasia Foundation, an entity that values training for employment, details that this modality has allowed just over 23,000 foreigners without papers and who had lived in Spain for more than two years to regularize their situation.
Among them, of Morocco 11,002, of Colombia 2,608, from Senegal 1,282, of Honduras 928 and from Peru 897, according to this report that cites data from the Spanish Ministry of Migration.
Rooting for training was a new way of regularizing foreigners created in July 2022, which can be accessed by those who have been in Spain for two years and enroll in regulated training to hold a job.
In this way, they first obtain a residence permit for one year, extendable for another year, while they study, and when they complete their training and present a work contract they obtain a residence and work permit for two years.
The study values this way of regularization, but also includes problems of a formula that does not allow working while studying.
The president of the Rumiñahui Association, Vladimir Paspue, which mainly supports Ecuadorians in Spain, asks that studies be combined with part-time work, since most training programs provide for internships in companies, which implies registering students. in the Spanish Social Security.
Jorge Martín, migration expert at the Spanish employers’ association CEOE, explains that the majority of those who are immersed in this first phase of studies need to guarantee a livelihood, which is why they should not be allowed to combine training and work.“It greatly complicates the practical success of this type of roots.”
