This Friday, the United States gave the go-ahead for Ukraine to use donated weapons against Russia, although with restrictions. However, It is not the only country that gives Kyiv permission to use its weapons. On that list are countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada, Latvia, Sweden or Denmark. In fact, the latter two have taken advantage of Zelensky’s visit to Stockholm to show him their support.
The Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, assured in the joint press conference held by both leaders that their “strategic objective is the victory of Ukraine”, while his Danish counterpart, Mette Frederiksen, has reaffirmed that “soon a Danish F-16 will be on the way” to the country invaded by Russia. Furthermore, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has categorically stated that we must “allow them [a los ucranianos] neutralize the military spaces from which they are launched”.
As forceful as the Frenchman, but to be against it, has been the Italian Giorgia Meloni. Italy and Belgium insist that the weapons they have provided to Ukraine should only be used within the country’s borders. In the case of Spain, our country does not authorize the use of weapons in Russian territory for now, because it has not provided this type of weapons.
From NATO, and through its Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, it is insisted that “Self-defense is a fundamental right” that “Ukraine has” as well as “the responsibility to protect its people,” while NATO has “the right to help Ukraine defend its right to self-defense.”
Given these positions, Russia has not been slow to speak out. This same week, its president, Vladimir Putin, warned that a continued escalation could have serious consequences. He also did not hesitate to launch a direct message to small countries of Europe, reminding them what is at stake. Beyond this, this Friday, the Kremlin spokesman said that they consider the authorization of the United States as direct participation in the conflict.
“A step forward”, which for the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, will allow him to defend his people, since “it will give the possibility of defending the people who live in the villages along the border line” so punished, the Ukrainian has stated.
