The first residence they bought in NY The late John Lennon and Yoko Ono, one of the best-known couples in the world of entertainment, has been put up for sale for the first time in 53 years, with a price of US$5.5 million plus a debt of more than US$55,000 in taxes.
The two-story home is located at 496 Broome Street, in the popular SoHo neighborhood. Specifically, in a historic area made up of about 500 buildings, many of which are characterized by their cast iron facades, and known as SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District, according to the untappedcities.com page.
This district was designated historic in 1973, just two years after the couple purchased the property. Its hyphenated name captures both the area’s architectural history and the period in the 1960s when SoHo became a haven for artists.
Most of the buildings in SoHo were built before 1910, although the couple’s property was built in 1920 and, since they purchased it from artist David Diao, it has remained in the hands of the artists’ family.

Currently, Yoko Ono shares the property with Sean, the son she had with the former member of the Beatles.
The couple’s former 3,832-square-foot home became a gathering place for creatives, the page notes. He further notes that, over the past half century, the building has served as a home, workplace, warehouse and recording studio.
The first floor of the residence has a great height in its walls (4.26 meters), windows, an open kitchen, a loft-style bedroom and a bathroom with brick-clad walls. On the second level is the recording studio.
After living in SoHo, the couple moved to the legendary Dakota apartment building, on the corner of 72nd Street and Central Park West (New York), where Lennon was murdered at its doors in early December 1980.
