The helicopter carrying the president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, suffered an accident this Sunday. According to state television and the official IRNA agency, the helicopter was forced to make a “forced landing” this Sunday while flying over the province of East Azerbaijan, located in the northwest of the country, and the status of the president is unknown. Later, the Minister of the Interior, Ahmad Vahidi, confirmed it.

Likewise, Iranian state television has reported that several rescue teams are on their way to the site where the accident occurred. In a statement collected by the Mehr agency, the minister explained that the plane, which was taking the president back from a formal event in East Azerbaijan, has been forced to descend due to fog and that right now several rescue teams They head to the area.

According to IRNA, Among the passengers of this helicopter was Raisi, the imam of Tabriz Friday, Hojjat al-Islam al-Hashim, the minister of foreign affairs, Hossein Amirabdollahian, and the governor of East Azerbaijan, Malik Rahmati, and several other companions.

The official agency assures that the harsh weather conditions are making the search difficult. HE 16 teams have been sent rescue operations to the area, but due to “the impassability of the area and unfavorable weather conditions, especially dense fog, search and rescue operations will take time,” they add.

The media has confirmed that Raisi traveled to the province of East Azerbaijan this Sunday morning to inaugurate a Qizqalaasi dam on the border Aras river.
