The Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip continues to leave both commanders dead in its wake. This Wednesday Israel killed five soldiers from his own army by mistake. As confirmed by a military spokesman for the same Jewish State, a tank mistook these five members of its troops for fighters from the terrorist group Hamas and shot them on two consecutive occasions.

The five soldiers, between 20 and 22 years old and members of the 202 battalion, were in the Jabalia refugee camp in the north of the Strip. The Israeli media ‘The Times of Israel’, citing a preliminary investigation by the armed forces, has reported that the soldiers died after An Israeli tank operating in the area fired twice at a building in which they were. In addition, seven other soldiers were injured in this same incident, all members of the 202nd battalion of the parachute brigade.

The armed wing of Hamas, the al-Qasam Brigades, have stated that at least a dozen Israeli soldiers had died in a friendly fire incident in this same area. However, the Army has not offered details about the event officially.

Since the war in the Gaza Strip began 278 Israeli soldiers have died, according to the armed forces. In addition, a Ministry of Defense contractor died this Wednesday after suffering injuries in an operation in Rafah three days ago. Most of the Israeli injuries and deaths in recent days have occurred in the north of the enclave, where the Army has returned to operating under the premise that the Islamist group Hamas is regrouping.
