Cuban-American singer Gloria Estefan is the sponsor of a new submarine nuclear of the US Navy, which was baptized with the name USS MiamiThe Port of Miami reported this Wednesday
The announcement was made during the concert that began Miami Fleet Week in the port of this city in southern Florida (USA), and in which the performer and international pop icon was present, as well as like her husband, Emilio Estefan, and other local figures.

As a sponsor, Estefan will have “a lasting connection with the ship and its crew”and will participate in both the christening ceremony and the commissioning of the USS Miami, a new Virginia-class SSN 811 nuclear-powered submarine, according to a statement from the Port of Miami.
“That shared history is what makes Miami one of the greatest cities in the world and is emblematic, what makes this country the greatest country in the world,” US Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro said during the event.
The concert featured a special performance by The Wailers, the reggae band formed by former members of the group Bob Marley and The Wailers, a show that was produced by Emilio Estefan.
“Producing this concert represents Miami. “We want to thank the American service members who have done so much for our country.”said the award-winning producer.
May is Military Appreciation Month in the United States and, for the first time, Miami hosts Fleet Week, which has led to the presence of five Navy and Coast Guard battleships in the port of this city.
Fleet Week Miami will continue until May 14 and will host more than 1,500 service members. The primary mission of this event is to contribute to a growing understanding of the importance of the maritime services in the national defense of the United States.
