More sanctions against Russia. A strike on an important resource and a shadow fleet

The European Commission has sent a draft of the next package of sanctions against Russia to EU countries. These include, among others: a hit on a raw material important for Russia and the so-called shadow fleet. Here are the details.

The European Commission has sent the draft of the 14th package of sanctions against Russia to EU countries, the aim of which is, among others, LNG hit. The European Commission wants to limit the import of liquefied gas from Russia, but has no plans for a complete embargo, the Brussels correspondent of Polish Radio reported several days ago.

EU sanctions against Russia. A blow to LNG and the shadow fleet

This is about a ban on the transshipment of Russian LNG in European ports, from where it is later sent around the world. Belgium and its port of Zeebrugge are the leaders in this respect, but France and Spain are also among the largest recipients. The LNG import ban will also apply to those EU terminals that are not part of the European gas network. In addition, restrictions are to apply to the Arctic and Murmansk LNG projects. But that’s not all. Brussels is finally planning to take action. The commission also wants to impose sanctions on several ships that transport Russian oil despite EU restrictions. They will now be banned from entering European ports. Transport companies that are at least one fourth owned by Russians would also be banned from operating in the EU.

EU sanctions. The European Commission has a list of over 50 companies

The European Commission has prepared a list of over 50 companies from outside the EU that are to be subject to trade restrictions. They provide Russia with Western components and help circumvent sanctions. The restrictions are intended to affect, among others: companies from China and Hong Kong, Turkey and Kyrgyzstan. There will also be a ban on Russia’s financing of political parties, foundations, non-governmental organizations and research centers. The commission also proposed a ban on the sale of Ukrainian works of art on the EU market if there are suspicions that they may have been looted. There is no ban on the import of aluminum, but the bill includes a ban on the import of helium. As for the export ban, it will cover, among others, manganese ore, mining machines, monitors and electronics.
