The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, He is traveling this weekend to speak at an economic forum in Los Angeles (California), according to official sources reported this Friday.
The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, confirmed in his usual press conference at the Casa Rosada (seat of Government) that the president will travel this Saturday at 10:30 p.m. (01:30 GMT on Sunday) to Los Angeles.
The president will participate “at the Milken Institute Annual Conference, where he will be the keynote speaker to a large number of bankers, investors and CEOs of companies in USA and Middle East”said the spokesperson this Friday at the Executive headquarters.
The leader of La Libertad Avanza (far-right) will travel accompanied by the Secretary General of the Presidency, his sister Karina Milei; the head of the cabinet, Nicolás Posse; and the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, also indicated Adorni.
According to the website of this influential conservative forum, the Argentine president’s talk is scheduled for Monday the 6th.
On the guest agenda there are names such as Queen Rania of Jordan; the general director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva; the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino; or Joe Biden’s special advisor for Latin America, Chris Dodd.
This will be Milei’s fifth trip abroad since he became president of Argentina, on December 10, and sixth since he was elected in the second round of the elections, held on November 19, 2023.
In addition to his speech at the Davos Forum last January and his tour of Israel, Italy and the Vatican in February, the rest of Milei’s outings – including the one prior to his investiture – have been to the United States.
“The president makes the decisions about which trips to take and which ones not to take, which events and cities to visit and which ones not to visit. We have no intervention, because he is the president of the Nation and he defines, with the criteria that he deems appropriate.”the spokesperson indicated this Friday when asked about these transfers.
A request for public information from the Argentine media LetraP revealed the day before that the State spent almost 38 million pesos (more than US$ 43,000 at the current official exchange rate) for Milei’s trip to the Conservative Action Policy Conference ( CPAC), during which he met former US President Donald Trump (2017-2021).
As an austerity measure by the Executive, the president made his international tours on commercial flights.
But on April 16, the Casa Rosada reported that it would stop doing so for security reasons, given the warning from the Ministry of Security of “certain risks” that Milei could run after the escalation of violence in the Middle East.
With the libertarian government, Argentina turned its foreign policy towards the United States and Israel, two countries that the president considers beacons in the Western world.
