Fritz Bélizaire is appointed new Prime Minister of Haiti

The Presidential Council of Haiti This Tuesday, he elected Fritz Bélizaire, former head of Sports, as the new prime minister, replacing Ariel Henryand appointed Edgard Leblanc Fils, former president of the Senate, to head the institution in charge of the transition in the country.

These appointments were made in a meeting held in the Prime Minister’s office, in the Villa d’Accueil de Bourdon, in Port-au-Prince, five days after the installation of the Presidential Council for the Transition in the National Palace and Henry officially resigned from office.

On Monday, the Presidential Transition Council already held a working session with the high command of the National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces, with the aim of finding solutions to restore security in the country, after a new deterioration in violence. since last February 29.

The Council is made up of nine members, seven of them with the right to speak and vote (Smith Augustin, Louis Gérald Gilles, Fritz Alphonse Jean, Edgar Leblanc Fils, Laurent St-Cyr, Emmanuel Vertilaire and Leslie Voltaire) and two only with the right to voice (Régine Abraham and Frisnel Joseph).

This institution, which faces important challenges in a country mired in an acute crisis and in the midst of violence by powerful armed gangs, has to prepare the way for holding elections for the appointment of a new president, no later than on February 7, 2026.

The restoration of public security, the organization of the national conference and constitutional reform, the holding of democratic, credible and participatory general elections, the restoration of justice, the rule of law and the fundamental rights of citizens, and the recovery institutional and economic, are the 5 major projects that the Council will address.
