Disney restaurant receives first Michelin star for a theme park

Victoria & Albert’s gourmet restaurant, in the theme park of disneyin Florida, was awarded with a Michelin star, the first time a theme park establishment in USA receives this coveted culinary award.

“It is an incredible honor to be recognized by Michelin for the innovative dining experience that our team brings to life”Matthew Sowers, the chef who commands the restaurant’s kitchen and has been working in its kitchen for almost twenty years, said this Friday in a statement.

The restaurant, located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa hotel in Orlando, is also the only one in Florida to hold the honor of having the AAA Five Diamonds, consecutively since 2000, and the Forbes Travel Guide Five Star awards, consecutively since 2018. .

With this star awarded by the prestigious Michelin Guide, the Disney restaurant becomes the first and only restaurant owned and operated by an American theme park to exhibit this award that rewards its cuisine and the culinary experience it offers to diners.

“Every member of our team earned this star, from our waiters to pastry chefs and cooks”said the chef.

Located in an elegant Victorian-style resort on the shores of the South Seas Lagoon, Victoria & Albert’s offers a menu “full of extraordinary flavors and the highest quality of ingredients from around the world” and a selection of more than 500 wine references.

In charge of the tourist complex’s pastry room is the pastry chef Ally Rogers, and, as sommelier and maître d’hôtel, the Puerto Rican Israel Pérez, who received the 2024 Florida Service Award at the ceremony, after more than 20 years at Walt Disney World Resort restaurants.

“Just like a dance, there are many small steps that come naturally after years of dedication. “Everything is done with a purpose and it is beautiful when the rhythm is perfect,” Perez said.

Disney also highlighted the work of chef Kevin Chong, in charge of overseeing the culinary operations and teams of the resort’s 13 other food and beverage establishments, and Scott Hunnel, culinary director, who led Victoria & Albert’s for many years.
