“Poland may lose large amounts of EU funds,” announced the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, Katarzyna Pełczyñska-Nałêcz. The European Commission’s working audit report points to “further irregularities”.

“We have received a working report from the EC audit at NCBiR, indicating further serious irregularities in the spending of funds from POIR (Smart Development Operational Program – editor’s note) at least since 2018.” – said the head of the Ministry of Funds, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, via social media. She added that Poland may lose large amounts of EU funds.

“We are starting extensive corrective actions, including audits, in close cooperation with the Commission,” announced the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy. The irregularities mentioned in the report include: suspicions of a conflict of interest in project assessments by the National Center for Research and Development and unclear and non-transparent procedures for selecting experts assessing projects by the NCBiR.

“Our priority is to repair irregularities as quickly as possible to protect the state budget from losses, save subsidies for properly implemented projects, and prevent the risk of loss of funds by NCBR in the 2021-2027 perspective. MFiPR cooperates here with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education” – . As we read, the ministry agreed with the European Commission to submit the applications in autumn 2024.

NCBiR. Four projects regained funding

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education announced that funding has been restored for four projects submitted to the “Fast Path” program. Previously, some companies lost funds due to irregularities in declarations of no arrears with ZUS contributions. 38 contracts were terminated for a total amount of over PLN 195 million.

“26 entrepreneurs appealed against the decision, and each case is considered individually. Today we know that in the case of 4 enterprises, the projects have been restored to financing. Further cases are considered urgently, due to their individual nature, it is difficult to estimate what the final effect will be” – the Ministry of Science told the website.
