In 2024, Poland will have to pay PLN 2.3 billion in plastic tax – estimates the Ministry of Climate and Environment. – It is the residents who bear the cost – emphasized Deputy Minister Anita Sowiñska.

The deputy head of the Ministry of Climate and Environment, Anita Sowińska, said that for 2023 Poland paid PLN 2 billion, the so-called plastic tax, i.e. a tax on non-recycled plastic. However, according to current estimates, in 2024 our country will have to pay up to PLN 2.3 billion in tax.

– These are huge burdens on the budget – said Anita Sowińska, quoted by . – The deposit system will definitely help us achieve our goals and reduce the burden on society, because these taxes do not come out of nowhere. After all, the budget is our taxes. It is the residents who bear the cost of this plastic tax, she added.

The deputy head of the Ministry of Climate, Anita Sowińska, also announced the submission of an act tightening the deposit system, which is to ensure that each commune will have one deposit collection point. Representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Environment assure that this system is intended to reduce the amount of waste generated by residents. Thanks to the additional packaging deposit, consumers are more willing to return them to stores. The deposits will cover plastic bottles up to three liters, reusable glass bottles and metal cans up to one liter. The deposit system will come into force in Poland from January 1, 2025.

Plastic tax. How much is the plastic tax?

The so-called plastic tax, i.e. a tax on unprocessed plastic, has been in force in the European Union since January 2021. The plastic tax rate is €800 per tonne of non-recycled plastic packaging waste.
