Brazil already has two million residences with solar panels on their roofs

Brazil already has two million residences with solar panels of energy generation on their roofs and that have a total installed capacity of 13 gigawatts (GW), according to a balance released this Wednesday by the Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association (Absolar).

Residential renewable sources on rooftops and small surrounding plots help supply energy to 2.4 million homes in the country, according to the association, which presented updated data on solar generation in Brazil until March.

The installation of these residential sources required investments of 70,300 million reais (about US$ 13,784 million).

By state, those with the most residences equipped with solar panels are Sao Paulo, the most populated in the country and in which this energy serves 385,300 homes; Río Grande do Sul (303,100) and Minas Gerais (291,800).

Including businesses, industries, public buildings and rural properties that also have solar roofs, solar energy helps supply 3.5 million consumer units throughout the country, with an installed capacity of 28 gigawatts.

The president of the Board of Directors of Abolar, Ronaldo Koloszuk, attributed the growth of residential generation in Brazil to the fact that technology is increasingly accessible after the fall of the fifty% of solar panel prices last year.

“This is the best time to invest in photovoltaic technology and to take advantage of the savings on the electricity bill and the other benefits of this clean, renewable and cheap source.”“, he claimed.

The installed capacity of the private systems (28 GW) added to that of the large solar parks of the electricity companies (13 GW) allows Brazil to currently have an installed capacity to generate a record of 41 gigawatts of energy from sources solar, according to Absolar.

Such capacity allows solar energy to have a share of the 17.4% in Brazil’s energy matrix.

This potential prevented Brazil from emitting 50.1 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere in recent years due to energy generation.
