Heavy rains affected the operation of Dubai airports, that temporarily interrupted their operations due to the flooding of the runways, as well as the access roads.

Dubai Airports, the manager of the emirate’s airports, issued an alert this Tuesday announcing that “operations continue to be significantly disrupted at Dubai International Airport due to heavy rains and flooding” this day.

In the note, the company stated that “due to the intense storm, the operations were temporarily suspended for 25 minutes this afternoon“, but he stressed that, after this stoppage, operations were slowly restarted and at this time “they are in recovery mode.”

“A total of 21 outbound and 24 arrival flights have been cancelled. since 12:02 local time (08:02 GMT) this morning, and three flights were diverted to other neighboring airports,” he reported.

Likewise, he has highlighted that “there is significant flooding on the roads around Dubai leading to the airport”, and announced that “current weather forecasts indicate that unsettled weather will continue to cause delays and disruptions until the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 17“.

For all these reasons, Dubai Airports activated response teams to work closely with airlines and other service partners with the aim of “reestablishing normal operations as soon as possible and minimizing inconvenience” to passengers.

Given these circumstances, they recommended travelers to use the dubai metro “for smoother traffic and taking advantage of the fact that the metropolitan extended its service until 03:00 hours (23:00 GMT).

On the other hand, the Government of Dubai extended remote work for public employees until this Wednesday, due to weather conditions, as reported in a statement on its X account.

“Private schools in Dubai have also been ordered to continue with distance learning tomorrow. “Private sector entities are urged to adopt remote work tomorrow and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of everyone,” the note states.

Many citizens shared through the social network X several videos and photographs of the airport, roads and shopping centers flooded by the torrential rains that have affected the emirate throughout this day.
