German government approves plan to provide economic aid to Ukraine

Small and medium-sized businesses are responsible for two-thirds of the added value of the Ukrainian economy and 80% of employment, the German Ministries of Cooperation and Economy recalled in a joint statement.

Among the 15 measures that make up the plan, it is also contemplated to facilitate the conditions so that Ukrainian companies can access credit in Germany.

”Ukraine needs not only our continued military support. At the same time we have to exhaust all possibilities to help the Ukrainian economy in these difficult times and offer it a perspective,” said Economy Minister Robert Habeck.

The plan is part of the Ukraine Recovery Conference that will be held on June 11 and 12 in Berlin at the invitation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

For her part, the German head of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbock, pleaded this Wednesday before Parliament to consider “the security of Eastern Europe” as the security of Germany and to address it from a “comprehensive” perspective.

Asked about the impact of the result of the presidential elections in the United States on Ukraine, Baerbock assured that there is no risk that NATO’s support for kyiv will waver.

”We Europeans must assume our responsibility regardless of the result, perhaps more responsibility if a certain result occurs,” he noted, in relation to a possible victory for former President Donald Trump.
