The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated this Monday that “There is a date” for the offensive on the city of Rafah, located in the south of the Gaza Strip and home of more than a million Palestinians displaced in the framework of the Israeli war against the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
In a video published on his social networks, the Israeli president has defended this next military operation as the last step to dismantle the Palestinian militia which, according to him, has its stronghold precisely in Rafah.
The Israeli authorities already announced weeks ago that they would carried out an offensive against the city, arousing criticism from the international community, even from its greatest ally: the United States. Rafah is one of the few territories in the Gaza Strip where Israeli attacks are still they have not devastated the area and where hundreds of thousands of displaced people from other Gazan areas attacked by Israel take refuge.
This announcement by Netanyahu comes at a time when Israeli and Hamas envoys negotiate a possible ceasefire agreement in Cairo in exchange for the release of the hostages held captive by the Palestinian militia since October 7, the date on which hostilities broke out in the region.
“Today I received a detailed report on the talks in Cairo, we are working all the time to achieve our goals, mainly, the release of all our hostages and achieve a complete victory over Hamas,” said Prime Minister Netanyahu.
The Israeli leader has stressed in his official profile on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, that this victory over the Palestinian militia “requires entry into Rafah” and the “elimination of the terrorist battalions that are there.” “It will happen, there is a date,” he concluded.
