The NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK), founded by Spanish chef José Andrés, has called for a independent investigation about the Israeli attacks that killed seven of its aid workers in the Gaza Strip.

“We have asked the governments of Australia, Canada, the United States, Poland and the United Kingdom to join us in demanding an independent investigation” into these attacks, the non-profit organization announced in a statement on the X network.

The NGO asks to clarify whether these attacks “were carried out intentionally or otherwise violated international law“. WCK has recalled in its note that on April 1 “The Israel Defense Forces killed seven aid workers employed by the NGOan internationally recognized organization.

“The murdered humanitarian workers were citizens of Australia, Canada/USA (dual citizenship), Gaza, Poland and the United Kingdom,” stated the statement signed by Javier García and Erin Gore, executive co-president and treasurer and executive director of the NGO. respectively.

The Secretary of Defense of the United States, Lloyd Austin, has already asked his Israeli counterpart, Yoav Gallant, in a telephone conversation they had last night, that the investigation into the attack on the convoy be “fast and transparent” to hold those responsible “accountable”, but makes no mention of any independent investigation.

Israel Admits to Killings, But Says It’s a Mistake

Israel admitted the murdersbut called them “a tragic event in which his forces unintentionally harmed non-combatants” and something that “happens in war.” But the organization believes that “this was a military attack that involved multiple attacks and targeted three WCK vehicles.”

“The three vehicles were transporting civilians; they were marked as WCK vehicles; and their movements were in full compliance with the Israeli authorities, who knew their itinerary, route and humanitarian mission,” they point out.

For this reason, and “to guarantee the integrity of the investigation, We asked the Israeli government to immediately preserve all documentscommunications, video and/or audio recordings and any other material potentially relevant to clarifying the April 1 attacks,” the note adds.

“An independent investigation – he concludes – is the only way to determine the truth of what happened, guarantee transparency and accountability of those responsible and prevent future attacks against humanitarian aid workers,” they add.

The Israeli Army’s preliminary report on the event, published yesterday Wednesday, concluded that the attack on the WCK humanitarian convoy was not “intended to harm to humanitarian workers” and was due to “misidentification.

On March 15, WCK participated in the arrival of 200 tons of food and water to Gaza, inaugurating a maritime corridor aboard the ship Open Arms despite calls from the international community and other NGOs that only The massive arrival of food by land will alleviate an imminent famine in Gaza.
