In the country, 62.6 million doses of the vaccines have already been applied and 27.2 million people have their complete scheme.
Based on the concept of the committee that advises the Government of Colombia in the management of the pandemic and the advancement of the vaccination plan, the country indicated that students from public and private institutions will return to face-to-face classes in 2022.
The decision was reported on Tuesday by the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz.
“The Ministry of Health, based on the recommendations of the Epidemiological Advisory Committee, has made the decision to eliminate as of this date the capacity for all areas of education, including initial, primary, secondary, higher education, and education for the work and human development, ”said Ruiz.
In the second semester of this year, Colombian educational institutions resumed face-to-face classes, but with limitations in terms of the number of students per classroom, and at the same time thousands of students continued their education virtually.
The minister explained that the provision to return to fully face-to-face education was adopted due to the “great advances” of the National Vaccination Plan against the coronavirus, which has high immunization coverage in teachers, children and adolescents.
Regarding the Plan, the health authorities reported today that 114,016 vaccines against COVID-19 were applied on Sunday, of which 59,558 correspond to second doses and 7,314 to the single-dose formula of the pharmaceutical company Janssen.
With this, 62.6 million doses have already been applied in the country and 27.2 million people have their complete vaccination scheme, while 2.7 million citizens have received booster doses.
Regarding the return to full presence, the Minister of Education, María Victoria Angulo, said that “this is a very important decision for the education sector,” while calling on parents and caregivers of minors to continue with vaccination to have a school bubble protected against the coronavirus.
In Colombia, 129,487 people have died from the pandemic and the number of infections is 5,109,022, according to figures from the Ministry of Health that on Monday reported that the first three cases of the omicron variant of covid-19 were detected in travelers who arrived from the United States and Spain.
