At the end of February, the European Commission decided on money for Poland. It agreed to unlock EUR 237 billion. It was about, among other things, for funds from the National Reconstruction Plan. Earlier, this step was announced by Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to Warsaw.
The next step regarding KPO. The final decision regarding money for Poland was made in Brussels
European Union member states have given their final consent to the payment of money from the KPO to Poland, Beata Płomecka from Polish Radio found out. The EU Financial and Economic Committee approved the European Commission’s decision at the end of February. This is an application for EUR 6 billion 300 million.
The way to unblocking the money was paved by the judicial reform program prepared by Poland, which is intended to guarantee the independence of the judiciary. This is a package of planned laws regarding, among others, the National Council of the Judiciary, the Constitutional Tribunal and the Supreme Court.
What will the KPO money be used for? The minister revealed the plans
The head of the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy already talked about plans to use funds from the National Reconstruction Plan in December last year. – The first one will be to eliminate “white spots” in access to broadband Internet, i.e. providing it in places where it is not profitable to build connections on a commercial basis. Thanks to this program, almost 1 million households will receive access to broadband Internet. After implementing this program, it will be possible to say that there will be no more “white spots”, assured Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz during a press conference. In addition, the funds are to be allocated for thermal modernization of multi-family buildings and additional benefits for parents who want to go to work and leave their children in care.
The government is expected to submit further applications later this year. The entire KPO pool for Poland is almost EUR 60 billion, which must be used by 2026. The Minister of Finance admitted that it would not be easy. – We are working actively to ensure that this EU money flows to Poland quickly and in a predictable manner, because we have to use this KPO very precisely and efficiently – assured Andrzej Domański in Brussels. The National Reconstruction Plan consists of non-repayable grants amounting to almost EUR 25 billion and over EUR 35 billion of cheap loans.
