Elections in Mexico: favorite in polls proposes strategy for ‘nearshoring’

The presidential candidate of the Mexican ruling party, Claudia Sheinbaum, raised this Friday the need to promote “development poles” in Mexico to organize what the country is experiencing in the face of the global phenomenon of company relocation, known as ‘nearshoring’.

The presidential candidate participated in the ‘Business Dialogue’ event, organized by the Canaco Monterrey (National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Monterrey), where she said that a planning scheme is necessary, based on vocations and territorial resources.

He added that the infrastructure for each of the areas must also be considered.

The proposal contains the promotion of 10 regions for the agro-industrial, medical, energy, tourism, chemical, petrochemical and information technology sectors.

“There is an enormous opportunity to generate these development poles in the country that allow us to attract these investments, generate infrastructure in these places but also, in those places to invest in housing, in education, in access to health.”, he mentioned.

On the other hand, Sheinbaum ruled out “gasoline” because he announced that fuel prices will be maintained. He also stressed that there will continue to be an austere government, without excesses.

“We will maintain a reasonable balance between debt and GDP (Gross Domestic Product)“, he claimed.

He stressed that his government’s objective will also be to continue increasing the minimum wage.

“Not only above inflation, we believe that the minimum wage should represent 2.5 basic monthly baskets“, he explained.

He added that it has been shown that if the minimum wage increases there is not necessarily inflation and private investment does not fall “what is generated is well-being.”

For his part, Fernando Canales Stelzer, president of Canaco Monterrey, said that polarization has been his main obstacle at the federal and state levels.

Sheinbaum, current leader in the polls in Mexico, will face the opposition candidates on June 2, Xóchitl Gálvez, from Fuerza y ​​Corazón por México, and Jorge Álvarez Máynez from Movimiento Ciudadano (MC).
