The automotive China BYD will increase investment in its electric vehicle factory in Camaçari by 83% (Brazil), going from 3,000 to 5,500 million reais (from 596 to 1,093 million dollars), the Jiemian financial portal reported this Tuesday.
The world’s largest electric manufacturer indicated that the initial production capacity of the complex will be about 150,000 units per year, with a view to beginning operations towards the end of this year.
The Camaçari factory – a town located in the metropolitan region of Salvador de Bahía – will produce pure electric and hybrid vehicles such as the Dolphinhe Song Plushe Yuan Plus or the Dolphin Mini for Brazil and for the rest of the Ibero-American markets in which the company operates.
In the complex, which covers more than 4.6 million square meters of the former Ford factory, there will be a total of 26 facilities that will also manufacture electric bus and truck chassis and process lithium and iron phosphate.
The project, whose construction officially began on the 5th, is expected to create more than 5,000 direct jobs, something about which BYD also announced the construction of five residential buildings to house some 4,230 employees.
