Just one rumor has sparked a controversy in France. Although it is not official, Aya Nakamura seems to be chosen to sing at the opening of the Paris Olympic Games this summer, a decision that has provoked the reaction of the ultras in France protesting against this election for not being French.

Nakamura is the most listened to French-speaking singer on the planet and perhaps that is why she seems to be the bet to lead the inauguration of the largest sporting event in the world. However, Being from Mali has generated a contrary reaction in the most conservative section of the French population despite having nationality and living in Paris since she was little.

The ultra group ‘Les Natifs’ has already taken out the streets of the French capital with the banner ‘Paris is not Bamako’, Nakamura’s hometown. And the leader of the far-right party ‘Reconquete’ has also positioned himself against: “They (babies) detect beauty, they love this beauty, they adore it, they do not vote for rap, nor for lambada, nor for Aya Nakamura, they 91% vote for Mozart”.

Even the head of the European list and Le Pen’s niece has also charged against her: “She doesn’t sing in French. She sings half in English, half in verlan (slang), half with, how to say, African influences. My issue is, can you represent us?“.

In the midst of the controversy, artists and even members of the government have come out to defend her. She even had to publish a ‘tweet’ in her defense: “You can be racist, but not deaf”. And in response to the controversy, the Paris Prosecutor’s Office has also detected racism in the publications against the singer and will investigate them.
