The former president of the United States and candidate for the Republican Party for the White House Donald Trump has promised this Monday that, if he wins the November elections, will release those imprisoned for the assault on the Capitol from January 6, 2021.
“My first measures as your next president will be to close the border (…) and release the January 6 hostages who were unjustly imprisoned“, stated the former US leader through his profile on the social network Truth Social. The assailants, incited by the then president and his false claims of electoral fraud, broke into the headquarters of the United States Congress to stop the session that confirmed the victory of the Democrat in the 2020 presidential elections.
Since then, more than 1,300 people have been charged, of which around 500 have been sentenced to prison terms, according to figures from the Department of Justice. The American president, Joe Biden, and his predecessor, Donald Trump, are the two foreseeable candidates for the November presidential elections in the United States after sweeping the ‘Super Tuesday’ primaries.
For this reason, the electoral confrontation between both experienced in the 2020 elections will be repeated, in a polarized country after the surprising triumph of the American tycoon in 2016. Since then, both candidacies have been marked by the advanced age of both and, above all, by the numerous judicial processes on Trump’s shoulders. In recent months, Biden’s management of the conflict in the Gaza Strip has brought him numerous internal criticisms.
