The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obradorstated this Wednesday that the country’s economy has grown during his mandate for having rejected the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).
“We did not follow the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund because they led us to a deep economic and social well-being crisis. And, since we do not follow the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund or the World Bank, the economy of Mexico is growing”he expressed.
The president made these statements in his morning conference when questioned about his opinion about the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, who has undertaken a severe fiscal adjustment to achieve a surplus in public accounts this year.
IMF Director Kristalina Georgieva highlighted last week at the G-20 finance ministers meeting in Brazil that “celebrates and supports the measures and results obtained” by the Government of the Argentine president.
López Obrador, who has previously called “conservative façade” to the Argentine leader, argued now that he cannot express himself “of what happens in Argentina, because it is a democratically elected Government, it was the Argentines who decided to have that Government, it was the Argentines who elected Mr. Milei.”
“So, I have to respect that. I have, I have said, my point of view in general, I feel that the neoliberal model is a failure, that it only causes harm to the majority of people and benefits a minority, who are the ones who promote this model in the world. ”, Indian.
The president, who last January planned to end his six-year term next October with an average economic growth of 1.3% annual, highlighted that during his administration unemployment has been controlled, the minimum wage has increased by more than 100% in real terms and there is a record of foreign direct investment (FDI).
“We have managed to reduce poverty, as has not happened in decades, and we have managed to reduce social inequality. So it does work not to apply the so-called neoliberal model.”he asserted.
