The UN Security Council has scheduled an extraordinary closed-door session for Wednesday to discuss the case of Haiti, where violence in recent days has caused the displacement of 15,000 people.

The escalation of violence began on Thursday in the absence of the prime minister, who traveled first on February 25 to Guyana to participate in the Caribbean Community (Caricom) summit and then to Kenya, to discuss the aforementioned deployment of force. multinational.

The Government of Haiti decreed on Sunday a state of emergency and a 72-hour curfew in the western department, where the capital Port-au-Prince is located, after the takeover of the Caribbean country’s main penitentiary by criminal gangs, which led to the escape of more than 3,000 prisoners.

The armed gangs demand the departure from power of Henry, who pledged during the Caricom summit in Guyana to hold elections before August 31, 2025.
