The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas has confirmed the beginningthis Sunday and tomorrow, Monday, of new talks in Cairo (Egypt) with a view to a possible ceasefire declaration in Gaza to exchange hostages Israelis for Palestinian prisoners.

After several days of information through anonymous security sources, the corroboration has come from one of the top officials of the Palestinian organization in Lebanon, Osama Hamdan. “We intend to reach a result that satisfies our people,” Hamdan declared in a statement published by the Hamas press office and reported by Bloomberg before insisting on the organization’s demands.

“We have made our position very clear: any conversation that does not begin with a ceasefirewith the resumption of aid and with the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip cannot be taken seriously“, he added on the other hand in statements to the television channel ‘Al Araby’.

For its part, the official Egyptian media ‘Al Qahera’ confirmed this Sunday the arrival in the Egyptian capital of the delegations from Qatar and the United States that will participate in these new talks with Hamas, without giving further details at the moment.

Hamas sources had reported in the last few hours that Israel has asked the Palestinian movement for a balance sheet on the exact number of hostages held by the Palestinian militias but, as a senior official of the organization made known under anonymity, to give know these kinds of details “it will cost a high price”as he told the newspaper ‘Al Araby Al Jadeed’ this Sunday.

Israel estimates that there are currently at least 134 hostages in the hands of the militias, although it does not have details on their health status.
