It’s in the bones. Ahmed Naim has beentrapped under the rubble of what was once his home. He and four other relatives were buried after An Israeli missile hit the building, and the boy Ahmed has survived.
The laSexta Noticias video that accompanies these lines shows the rescuers talking to Ahmed and giving him strength so that he does not stop climbing. “You are so close. In the name of God continue, continue, you will arrive. Believe me, you will reach it,” they encourage him.
With his last strength, he does everything possible not to give up and follow the voice of the rescuer. The members of the Palestinian Civil Defense throw him a rope for him to hold on to and get out of the hole: “God, God, pull, Ahmed, pull. Here you are. Let’s untie the rope.” And finally, they manage to grab his arms. After hours of work, the miracle is done.
Ahmed rests exhausted and motionless in the arms of one of his rescuers, he does not stop holding him with one hand. Emergency services are trying to keep him alive. Humanitarian aid does not reach Gaza City and after nine days trapped, is completely malnourished. “Nine days under the rubble. We rescued him after 9 days, he is a skeleton. We are going to take him to the hospital,” says one of the rescuers.
He is the survivor of a horror that should not have suffered. Resources in the Strip are minimal, there is no fuel and Ahmed is taken to the hospital in a donkey cart. Since the start of the Israeli offensive, civil defense teams have been working with minimal resources. Meanwhile, there are already more than 30,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza.
