Conference in Paris will warn Russia that Europe is not giving up on Ukraine

About twenty world leaders will meet this Monday in Parisat a conference sponsored by the French president, Emmanuel Macronwhich will send a clear message to Russia that Europe will not give up Ukraine and that will not allow a victory for Vladimir Putin’s regime.

Among those attending this meeting, which will be held at the Elysée Palace during the afternoon, are heads of State and Government such as the President of the Spanish Executive, Pedro Sánchez, the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, or the Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander by Croo.

There will also be the presence of non-European countries, such as Canada or the United States – whose Government will be represented by the Undersecretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, James O’Brien -, while the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, will intervene via videoconference.

The primary objective of this forum, which has been prepared in a few days after Zelensky’s visit to Paris on February 16 and the subsequent Munich Security Conference, is to “contradict the opinion” that support for Kiev is on the decline. after two years of conflict.

“We are not fatigued, we are extremely determined,” Elysée sources indicated this Sunday.

For Paris, it is essential to maintain high conviction among the international community and public opinion at a time when, in addition to a hardening of the Russian offensive, there is certain uncertainty regarding Western support.

The sources named, as an example, the potential volatility due to the electoral campaign and the recent blockade of Congress in the United States, but also other factors that are indirectly related to the effects of the conflict and the arrival of Ukrainian products, such as the protests of farmers in several European countries.

Thus, more than concrete announcements or new aid packages, a message of “unity” will come from Paris to seriously warn Moscow that it will not achieve victory, despite its latest advances on the ground.

“The will is intact,” the Elysée emphasized, and Europe “will behave depending on the aggressiveness” exerted by Russia, which has recently grown.

The increase in cybersecurity attacks, the death in prison of the opponent Alexei Navalni or that of a Russian pilot who had taken refuge in Spain illustrate this trend and demonstrate, for the French Government, that not only Ukraine is risking its future in this war, but also Europe and the rest of the world.

“There can be no possible defeat in Ukraine, we will not allow it,” the sources declared. “Putin should not get his hopes up, there is no fatigue in Europe,” they stressed.

In addition to this central message, Ukraine’s allies will evaluate how they can help Ukraine more and better based on the specific defense needs, so that it is more robust and effective..

“A war is not won only with financial announcements, it is also won effectively on the ground,” they indicated from the Elysée.

And regarding the weapons material that is promised to kyiv, the sources also emphasized that it must not only be delivered – at a time when the Ukrainian Government has complained that half of the weapons that Europe agrees to send arrive late. -, but it also has to be useful.
