Hamas leaves Egypt after days of stalled negotiations on possible Gaza truce

The delegation of the Palestinian group Hamasheaded by the leader of its political bureau Ismail Haniyeh, concluded its visit to Cairo this Friday, after days of negotiations with the head of Egyptian Intelligence and a US advisor to try to reach a truce in Loopin which no progress was announced.

Palestinian sources close to the talks told EFE that in addition to addressing the cessation of Israeli aggression against the Strip, they discussed “the return of the displaced to their places of residence, relief and refuge, especially in the north of the enclave, and the ways to achieve this”, and the issue of exchanging prisoners was discussed, although they did not communicate any decision or agreement in this regard.

They also discussed “what the occupation is planning in Jerusalem in light of the occupation government’s decision to prevent (Palestinians) in the West Bank from praying at the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan,” without provide more details.

Hamas concessions

Yesterday, Palestinian sources anticipated a possible agreement for a new truce in the coming days in Gaza, after Hamas offered “concessions” in negotiations Cairo.

Specifically, as Palestinian sources close to the negotiations revealed to EFE, “Hamas has given up its demand for a permanent ceasefire and a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, in exchange for guarantees that its leaders will not be assassinated.”

The sources did not rule out the announcement of a new truce “next week” after a new meeting that is scheduled in Paris between the heads of the Intelligence services of Israel, the United States and Egypt, as well as the Prime Minister of Qatar.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, revealed last night for the first time, and after four and a half months of war in Loophis plan for ‘the day after’ the conflict, in which he detailed a demilitarized Strip, whose security will depend on Israel and in which UNRWA does not exist.
