THE main port of entry for drugs in Europe is not in Cádiz, nor in Spain. These are the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.

It is estimated that each year 20,000 million euros come in from criminal sources, double the entire budget of the Police and judges. Due, the great insecurity and the shootingswhich increased to more than 80 on the streets of Antwerp in 2022.

Almost 80% of the cocaine that reaches Europe does so through these routes. Behind it is one of the largest and most unknown drug trafficking mafias. Known as ‘Mocro Maffia’, which It moves millions and millions of euros every year in an increasingly violent way.

Although they have based their activity on stealth, for months has become more aggressive, increasing the number of murders and shootings. In fact, in 2023 there were more than 600 bomb ‘settlings’ in the Netherlands.

The murders and shootings are repeated, torture in soundproof chambers with assaults, kidnappings and threats that have even reached the Dutch prime minister or the heir princess to the throne. Crimes that increasingly involve minors.

Its powerful networks with South America and the Maghreb has already caused them to arrive in Spain. According to Ricardo Magaz, professor of Criminal Phenomenology at UNED, “there have already been serious incidents in the Marbella area and in other places on the Costa del Sol, where these mafias, which are very violent and stop at nothing, have already drawn from pistols”.

Linked to drug trafficking in the Strait, they have one of the headquarters of their multimillion-dollar business on the Costa del Sol: “As for hashish, one kilo purchased directly in Morocco (…) transported in just half an hour across the narrow is worth twice as much in Spain. In the case of cocaine we would be talking about 1 ton, Well, approximately 50 million euros selling it, yes, at retail,” the expert has indicated. For this reason, the fight against drug trafficking in northern Europe is also being fought in Spain.
