Hamas chief demands ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza

The head of the Palestinian movement HamasIsmail Haniyeh, reiterated this Saturday the group’s demand for a complete ceasefire in Loopafter the American president on Friday called for a “temporary truce” to guarantee the release of the Israeli hostages.

This week, high-level negotiations were held in Cairo to achieve a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas in Loopbut there is no indication as to what the result was.

In a statement issued this Saturday, Haniyeh reiterated from Qatar the demands of the Palestinian movement, including a cessation of fighting.

”The resistance will not accept anything other than the Stop the firethe withdrawal of the occupation army from the Strip, the lifting of the oppressive blockade and the guarantee of a safe haven for the displaced,” he stated.

Haniyeh insisted that displaced Palestinians from the north of this territory return to their homes and also called for the release of Hamas members serving long prison sentences in Israel.

The American president, Joe Bidenadvocated on Friday for a temporary truce in Loop to free the hostages taken by Hamas in the October 7 attack, as part of a possible exchange with the Palestinians imprisoned in Israel.

Biden He added that he had “extensive” discussions on the matter with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and that negotiations are “ongoing.”

Netanyahu previously dismissed the demands of Hamasbut is under pressure from the families of the hostages held in Gaza to reach an agreement for the release of the hostages.

During the October 7 attack, fighters from Hamas 250 people were captured and more than 100 were freed in an exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners who were released from prison in Israel during a week-long truce in late November.

Israeli authorities say that about 130 people remain kidnapped and that 30 of the hostages are dead.

The attack of the commandos Hamas in southern Israel on October 7 left nearly 1,160 dead, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures.

Israel’s offensive in Loop to “annihilate” Hamas left 28,858 dead, most of them women and minors, according to data from the Ministry of Health of this Palestinian territory, governed by the Islamist movement since 2007.
