The president of Argentina, Javier Mileiwill travel to Spain next June to receive an award granted by the Juan de Mariana Institute, like the Peruvian writer and Nobel Prize winner in Literature, Mario Vargas Llosa.

”President Milei will receive the 2024 Prize from the Juan de Mariana Institute on June 21, along with other leaders from different areas, such as the economist Jesús Huerta de Soto or the writer Mario Vargas Llosa and other personalities of global importance” , announced the presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, at a press conference.

The Juan de Mariana awards will be presented on June 21 in Madrid, an occasion for which Milei will travel to Spain, before visiting Germany, also to receive an award.

At the same press conference, the official deputy Alberto Benegas Lynch explained that the Juan de Mariana awards are of “great relevance” and bring together “liberals from all over the world,” who, on the occasion of the awards ceremony, celebrate in Madrid a week of academic activities.

”At the Freedom Dinner, where this award is given, the noble cause of freedom is toasted and honors are paid to the honoree,” highlighted the parliamentarian from the far-right party La Libertad Avanza, led by the libertarian Milei.

He indicated that in addition to Milei, an economist by profession, Vargas Llosa and Huerta de Soto, the award will be given this year to the Argentine economist Alberto Benegas Lynch (h), father of the libertarian deputy; to the Spanish economist Miguel Anxo Bastos; the Argentine economist residing in Spain Carlos Rodríguez Braun; to the Spanish philosopher and jurist Antonio Escohotado, who died in 2021; to the Cuban journalist, writer and politician Carlos Alberto Montaner, who died in 2023, and the Hungarian liberal politician Anthony de Jasay, who died in 2019.

According to the parliamentarian, the Argentine president will receive on June 22 in Hamburg (Germany) the Friedrich von Hayek medal, awarded by the Hayek Society in recognition for “the fight for the noble cause of freedom that” Milei “has presented in the academic level and now on the political level.”Milei, who assumed the Argentine Presidency on December 10, will travel to the United States next week to participate in the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Regarding the latter, the presidential spokesperson said this Friday that this trip is not yet confirmed and that, if it materializes, it would not be on February 21 with a return to Argentina on February 25, but rather “a much more lightning trip.”
